Once you put down your bags and get comfortable, Illie is easily operated by using the touch sensitive button so that you can fill your home with a warm comforting light, or put Illie to sleep and wind down for sleep.

Background
In this paired up project with my fellow student Ellie Small, we decided to design to alleviate loneliness. We chose this as we were interested in the effects of light on mood, and as students studying away from family we were personally familiar with conversations around loneliness, especially relating to returning to a flat or room alone.
Through the use of design mapping, we identified that the first few moments after arriving home often define people's mood in the following hours. We took the simple action of placing keys down was an oppourtunity to create a responsive interaction with our lighting device that acts as a form of 'welcome'.
